When: Saturday, May 6th from 10:00am-4:00pm!
Where: Our historic Jackson Street Roundhouse Train Museum at 193 E. Pennsylvania Ave., St. Paul, 55130
What: The Minnesota Transportation Museum is planning a day to explore train history throughout St. Paul, MN! Start your day at our Jackson Street Roundhouse Train Museum with REAL caboose rides, blacksmith demonstrations, vendors on site, a food truck on site, balloon animals and face painting, door prizes, and museum exhibits!
We will have our fleet of vintage buses offering tours of downtown St. Paul sharing railroad history along the ride (included with admission)! Our buses will also serve as shuttles from our museum to other various sites for you and your family to enjoy - Union Depot, The James J. Hill Center, and The Twin City Model Railroad Museum!
In conjunction with Train Day, MTM will be operating "The Last Mail Train". As part of the train, Railway Post Office (RPO) Northern Pacific #1102 will be functioning in its original role as a railway post office. This car is one of the last functioning Railway Post Offices in North America. It is currently one of two certified for movement on mainline rail! The train is scheduled for departure from Union Depot at the end of Train Day at 4:00pm to our Osceola, WI depot.
We are partnering with the U.S. Postal Service for the 40th anniversary of the end of RPO service. This will be the first time in some 40 years that an actual RPO postmark will be used.
We are selling exclusive items related to the Northern Pacific #1102. We have set up a shop for you to purchase your commemorative covers, postcards, and books!
We are still in the planning stages for this event, so be sure to follow us on Facebook and to check back often to stay in the loop!
